<p>The food has been serving me goodddddd in Central America. <img decoding="async" height="16" width="16" alt="&#x1f924;" src="https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/t11/3/16/1f924.png"></p>

<p>I kinda feel immune to food poisoning after experiencing it so severe the first week. So I’ve been eating mostly street food since then, even though I’ve been advised not to by multiple resources.<img decoding="async" height="16" width="16" alt="&#x1f643;" src="https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/tb/3/16/1f643.png"></p>

<p>Overall I feel like street food is better (and safer) than restaurant food, since they’re preparing it right in front of you.</p>

<p>However, this little restaurant in Antigua really has the best (budget-proof) taco’s and quesadilla’s. <img decoding="async" height="16" width="16" alt="&#x1f32e;" src="https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/t3c/3/16/1f32e.png"><img decoding="async" height="16" width="16" alt="&#x1f32e;" src="https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/t3c/3/16/1f32e.png"><img decoding="async" height="16" width="16" alt="&#x1f32e;" src="https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/t3c/3/16/1f32e.png"></p>

<p>I also got a quite disgusting drink called “Cimarrrona” <img loading="lazy" decoding="async" height="16" width="16" alt="&#x1f379;" src="https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/t2b/3/16/1f379.png">because I like to try new things. It’s basically soda, limes and salt<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" height="16" width="16" alt="&#x1f9c2;" src="https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/t7e/3/16/1f9c2.png"> instead of sugar. They say it’s the best hangover cure and I’m sure they’re right. It still tasted like salt water though, so I wasn’t a fan.</p>

<p>Coblestone filled streets, Maya women wearing colorful textiles, colonial architecture and a large volcano that leads you south. Antigua has it all. </p>

<p>The last two days have been rough, but I’ve been feeling a little better each day. Miriam made me delicious pancakes and I headed into the city. After spanish class, two friends and I headed to the mercado (market) to get some lunch. We bought a avocado for 3Q (€0,40) and asked the lady at the Torta stand to prepare it. She added it to the Tortas which made themeven more delicious! </p>

<div class="wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile"><figure class="wp-block-media-text__media"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1920" height="2560" src="https://www.larissakroone.nl/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/img_1948-scaled.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-221 size-full" srcset="https://www.larissakroone.nl/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/img_1948-scaled.jpg 1920w, https://www.larissakroone.nl/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/img_1948-225x300.jpg 225w, https://www.larissakroone.nl/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/img_1948-768x1024.jpg 768w, https://www.larissakroone.nl/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/img_1948-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https://www.larissakroone.nl/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/img_1948-1536x2048.jpg 1536w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></figure><div class="wp-block-media-text__content">
<p>Imagine that a sandwich and a taco got married and had a kid. That kid would be named<em> Torta. </em>Bread, meat, cheese, veggies. A torta is a Mexican sandwich. It’s a fluffy bun soread with butter and topped with anything you can imagine &#8211; refried beans, creamy avocado, spicy peppers &#8211; and piled with meat(s) and cheese(s) of your choosing. A torta has similar flavors to a taco, but the bread adds a whole new dynamic. </p>
</div></div>

<p>After lunch we headed to their place to look for a plan for tomorrow. They wanted to go to semuc champey, the beautiful waterfalls to recharge, and I would maybe join. In the end I decided to stick to my own plan and go to Lake Atitlan. I left their place and started wandering home.</p>

<p>On my way home I facetimed my old roomies from Utrecht to show them around the city. I really miss them and our cat Jonko, so it was lovely to be able to see them. It was midnight over there so they went to bed and I headed to my place. </p>

<p>It was the last dinner before leaving and the whole family, including grand children, sat together for some homemade taquitos and beans. I was invited to go out that night, but decided to stay in instead. I still had to pack my bags and figure out how to get to Lake Atitlan from here.</p>
